Top 5 Cheap Places to Eat in Perth

cheap-food-perth

For those of us that are culinary minded, eating is a part of travelling as much as seeing the sights. Perth has an extensive palate in terms of cuisine, boasting a large multicultural community. Within the city, you can get everything from gourmet French meals, right down to good old fashioned pub food.

Many of our visitors who stay in our short term accommodation apartments are looking to enjoy a good meal on a shoestring budget, which is not the easiest task in Perth, WA, as many eateries price a main meal around the 30-40 dollar mark. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great deals out there, you just have to know where to look. Below are the top 5 cheap eats in Perth.

5. Govinda’s – Northbridge

If you’re vegetarian, or at least quite partial to eating it, Govinda’s in Northbridge is a definitely worth a look in. In this tiny Hare Krishna restaurant you can get all you can eat for $10. The curries they serve are explosive with flavour and will definitely fill you up. $7 takeaways are also available during the day, with the price going down after 4pm to a jaw-dropping 4 bucks.

4. Alfred’s Kitchen – Guildford

It is not only a cheap place to eat, it is a must-see night spot of Perth. Nestled between a train track and a busy road, Alfred’s allows you to experience communal dining ‘hobo style’ around a roaring outside fire. Half a litre of their famous pea and ham soup will set you back $4.50, while a 225ml serving costs $3. However, what Alfred’s is best known for is their burgers – and starting at $5.20, it is truly a spendthrifts dream.

3. The Brass Monkey – Northbridge

A relaxed pub in the heart of the city, The Brass Monkey also has great meal deals every day of the week. It doesn’t matter if it’s a quiet Monday or a boisterous Sunday afternoon, you can get any of the follow for a measly 12 bucks.

  • 250g Rump and chips
  • Fish and chips
  • Chicken parmigiana and chips
  • Burger and chips.

They are substantial meals as well. So if you have a gaping hole in your stomach, fill it with their stodgy pub food. For an extra $3 you can grab a middy of Carton Draught or a glass of the house wine.

2. Mt Henry Tavern – Como

Just off Kwinana Freeway in Como is Mt Henry Tavern. On certain days between 5:30 and 7pm, patrons can enjoy steak and chips or a steak sandwich for $7! You can’t even get two cups of coffee for that, which makes it perfect for those penny-pinching travellers out there.

1. Pancho’s Mexican Villa Restaurant – Mount Lawley & Victoria Park

Pancho’s has a $6 Taco special on Thursdays. It’s not only boasts a number of delicious varieties (that are also filling), but you can wash them down with $6 frozen cocktails and Sol beers. For the same price as a main meal in other places around the city, you can positively have a banquet and go back to your accommodation with your pants a little fuller. However, book ahead at these nights are extremely popular and are usually packed to the rafters. It wasn’t the cheapest on the list, but for the price and the quality of the food, this is the best value for money in town, which is why it has scored number 1 on this list.

Bon appetite in Perth.
